Some McCool Looking McFun!

Newsletter Posted on Tue, September 07, 2021 10:27:31

Fist off, welcome to all the nice people who’ve joined up by taking part in the national book contest run by C. L. Cannon. One lucky winner will take home Dune by Frank Herbert, A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine, Day Zero by C. Robert Cargill, and A Pale Light in the Black by K. B. Wagers, plus a Fallout board game, Mandalorian and Grogu Funko Pop, Starfleet keychain, Battlestar Galactica FRAK sticker, Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy coffee mug, and Jayne Firefly beanie! You can increase your chances by scrolling down and following McSciFi on various social media sites.

Speaking of fun, a couple months back a lovely lady named Sabrina Zaremba decided to take some excellent boudoir pictures holding Legends Parallel and Hybrid Zero. After some discussion it was agreed that Leslie Tejlor, the artist for Legends Parallel, would use her voluminous pictographic library as source material and create a drawing of her. He did that, she loved it, and here we are.

While she hasn’t started a trend of any sort, hope does spring eternal, we all admire her enthusiasm and hope you do too.

Just in case you missed the long, erudite, reviews from experts, all of whom are wonderful, good looking, and smell nice, I thought it might be fun to share what fans think of McSciFi’s literary offerings.

McHowdy McHi!

Newsletter Posted on Tue, August 31, 2021 08:43:18

A couple of weeks ago someone went to all the time and trouble to have my email blasts listed as spam. This is not as easy to do as you might think. Yeah, you can block an email address from sullying your delicate senses, but actually banning someone from the internet takes time, money, and effort. And, even so, they didn’t succeed. Sure, I was inconvenienced, and some people didn’t get their weekly doses of McSciFi until they’d weeded through the glorious offers for Russian brides, bitcoin investments, and Medicare enhancements, I was still there floating amongst the flotsam and jetsam. I know this since some people were kind enough to let me know it had been worth the effort to slog through the mush.

So, I set to work with CONTABO, the nice people who own the VPS I lease for bulk emails, and we were able to counter every complaint, actually upgrade my security, and return McSciFi to the halcyon realms of not spam.

The good news is, this wasn’t personal. They hit over a hundred accounts. The bad news is, people suck.

The fun part is, should they try this again, I’ll find out who they are. My guess is they’re done now.

I’ve talked before about the upcoming Marcie’s Marvels. And copies have left the printer and are headed this way. The thing is, I don’t owns this title, Marcie’s family does.

A woman named Elizabeth Gerald contacted me and told me the story she wanted to tell. It was tough to hear. Even tougher to write. Her teenage daughter, Marcie, had taken her life after being bullied and abused incessantly. However, out of that tragedy, she wanted to share something positive for other girls facing similar dilemmas.

After some back and forth, I drafted the first script. The hero would be a super-powered young girl named Marcie. She would scour her city looking for girls being harassed or abused and rescue them. She would also, and always, let them know none of this was their fault.

The story, unlike much of my other work, is aimed squarely at teenage girls. It will, despite the darker themes we’ll be exploring, have humor and hope in every issue.

All that being said, while I can’t sell you a copy, I can give you one. Next week I will announce a contest so a couple of lucky humans can hold one and enjoy it.

I warned you that knowing me had benefits.

Thanks to the Delta Variant I’m turning down any convention appearances until spring of 2022. Since cons are my main source of income I do not do this lightly. I haven’t pimped my happy ass in public since December of 2019. I can honestly say these decisions hurt me more than you, but I will not risk my family’s well being to sell a few books.

Until next week stay sane, safe, and socially distance like the raging introvert you need to be.

While I’m not giving any of my stuff away for the promotion, I do have many ways for you to buy it. I’ll have more comic book news next week so, for now, I’ll stick to mad pimping my novels.

Instead of the long, erudite, reviews from experts, all of whom are wonderful, good looking, and smell nice, I thought it might be fun to share what fans think.

I have also started ordering more merch again in anticipation of appearing at cons in 2022. Make sure to check in on MY MERCH PAGE to see what’s in stock. The reason I’m ordering so early is due to the fact that the pandemic has disrupted a lot of supply chains and simple stuff, like paper, is harder to get. Since I’m a writer paper’s kind of important.

At the very bottom of today’s missive you can find a set of reviews done an incredibly smart, if always snarky, young lady who does not rue my existence.

Until next week I ask that you get vaxxed and stay safe, sane, and inside. If you must venture out, wear a mask. The CDC has all the latest, scientifically tested, reasons you should do so. Should the science change, for any reason, they’ll make adjustments. Just remember to keep yourself alive. I’ve grown fond of you.

Well, the Free Comic Book Day promotion went better than expected. Not only did existing subscribers take advantage of it but I had forty-eight new people sign up for the newsletter as well. And just in time too. There’s some fun stuff happening.

First, and foremost, I’m part of a national book contest run by C. L. Cannon where one lucky winner will take home Dune by Frank Herbert, A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine, Day Zero by C. It’s free to enter and you can increase your chances by scrolling down and following McSciFi on various social media sites.

That is truly a sci-fi lover’s dream haul.

A quick reminder that you can CLICK HERE to get autographed copies of my work. Supplies are limited due to the fact I’m not doing cons until it’s safe to do so and there’s only so much room in my apartment.

Sadly, due to the Delta variant raging around the country, even cons that are happening are limiting crowd sizes, and so on, making it doubtful I’d make a profit.

Sure, it’s fun to meet new people, but I like to eat too.,

Next week I’ll get into all the cool promotional stuff. Marcie’s Marvels is headed to the printer and there are some new things happening that will, hopefully, make strangers want to buy my books. Until then, stay safe, sane, and inside.

Sorry to McBother You, But ….

Newsletter Posted on Thu, August 12, 2021 08:35:24

There’s a bunch of free stuff you can snag, and a limited time for you to do so.

August 14th is Free Comic Book Day. In honor of that the nice people over at ICC Magazine have decided to let anyone who knows anyone download issues #1 – #10 for free. Heck, you can even let that annoying pseudo-human at work know and they can get in on the fun too. Think of it as the olive branch you didn’t know you needed to extend.

Here’s how it works. First, you CLICK HERE to open the Indy Planet page for ICC Magazine. Then you scroll down a little and select all the issues you want. If you want the newer ones, and no one can blame you if you do, digital copies are only .99 ₵ . Seriously, there’s no way for you to go wrong here.

ICC Magazine is nationally distributed by Diamond and is America’s leading source for news on the indie creator scene. From legends in the game to the hottest new names, ICC Magazine covers them all.

Bonus? Anyone who asks, either by responding to this email or just sending an email to BillMcSciFi@gmail.com, will get free, digital, copies of the Legends Parallel graphic novel and Issue #1 of Hybrid Zero: Juggernaut. All copies will be sent on August 15th.

Thanks for letting me into your day. Please stay safe, sane, inside, and wear a mask everywhere else. See you next week!

Something McNew & Something McOld

Newsletter Posted on Tue, August 10, 2021 09:14:15

This is the McNew.

I have made a nice niche for myself by writing for other people’s projects. Sometimes they are fleshed out and just need me to assemble them and others have the barest of notions. I have no preference either way so I tend to be easy to work with.

That being said, sometimes a project comes along that leaves me breathless.

A woman named Elizabeth Gerald contacted me and told me the story she wanted to tell. It was tough to hear. Even tougher to write. Her teenage daughter, Marcie, had taken her life after being bullied and abused incessantly. The story, unlike much of my other work, is aimed squarely at teenage girls. It will, despite the darker themes we’ll be exploring, have humor and hope in every issue.

There is a coloring book, designed by a young woman who went through similar issues, and a comic book which is currently being brought to life by the wildly talented Eko Prihanto.

I imagine you’ll be able to snag copies by the time you’re reading my next newsletter.

This is the McOld

While I like a good mystery as much as the next Columbo, there are times I wish things were less opaque. Case in point, my relationship with Walmart. Follow along as this gets fun.

You can buy SPLICE: HIT BIT TECHNOLOGY on their website. In fact, it’s currently on sale as part of a larger promotion. If you’ve been dilly dallying now would be a good time to click THIS LINK and get your copy for under $10.00.

YAY!

While you’re online you can also buy Goptri of the Mists: Kitaab Ek and have it delivered in two days. So that’s nice.

In fact, the nice people at Azoth Khem are seeing more and more of their titles added to Walmart’s catalog. This is good news.

But …

You knew there was a “but,” didn’t you?

Just to keep things interesting, they’re carrying The Brittle Riders too, but only in select stores. But, because God is a whimsical pixie, we have no way of finding out which ones. Which means you can go to Walmart online and buy the book related to The Brittle Riders but not The Brittle Riders itself.

However you can walk into a rural Walmart, those are the only ones that seem to be carrying it based on notifications from fans who’ve seen it, and pick up a copy, read it, and then go get Goptri of the Mists: Kitaab Ek delivered.

Not to fear, you need not miss a thing. You can still order The Brittle Riders online. CLICK HERE to get your copy. Just not from Walmart.

For the record, no one is upset by these events. Just amused. It gives us something to talk about around the water cooler.

Or the vodka bowl. Whatever the case may be.

Until next time, stay safe and sane and wear a freaking mask. I’ve buried enough friends, I have no desire to add any of you to that list.

I’m So McPretty

Newsletter Posted on Tue, July 27, 2021 09:53:38

Guten Morgen, as they say in Japan. Or is that Ohayogozaimasu as they say in Brazil? I may be wrong about all of them. No matter, it’s always a pleasure to see you again. Of all the people reading this newsletter you’re the best looking and smartest. I don’t want you to panic but next week Kim and I are going on a mini vacation and there will be no way to do a newsletter. It will just be us, a large dog, and a pool. If all goes well and God truly loves us, there will be alcohol as well.

I’m going to keep today’s missive brief.

I have been spending the last week or so updating some of my social media pages, ones I tend to neglect, and working on a couple new projects. Let’s take them in reverse order.

I’m once again leaping into the abyss with the legendary Cyril Brown to work on a new dimension of the Hybrid Zero Multiverse. This time our broken brains are creating an intergalactic, pansexual, rock band that may, or may not, alter the paths of governments and bring down despots. No matter what, they make some pretty cool music. So, make sure your boss isn’t around, and CLICK HERE to meet The Neutrinos. Their motto is “We were the shit they scraped off their shoes when we arrived, but now we’re the shit. Catchy, isn’t it?

I’m also circling back to work with the infamous Ghoulbeanz. Back when she was known as “innocent little Soybean” we worked on Svarozic together. The story of a woman trapped inside a man and a god trapped inside a human has earned more fans than expected. Since it was just a character introduction you’re welcome to click the link and read the story for free. Now, just for giggles, we’re turning our jaundiced eyes on the afterlife. Specifically, those beings who shuttle us there when we shed our mortal coils. Bob: Sins of the Son is a fun look at the son of death and his quest to be a superhero in Chicago.

Most people who follow me know I try not to sully the Internet with my visage. My avatars are much cooler and make me look more human. However, thanks to the rise of Tik Tok, more and more people demand to see a face with the promotion. I’ve been dipping a toe into the shallow end, but I have been trying. If you go to my Tik Tok or YouTube pages, you will see videos of me sitting in my living room talking about stuff. Since I’m still not comfortable with this I tend to sound like I washed down ten hits of speed with a gallon of espresso. There are even some examples on my Instagram page. Although, fortunately, they are fewer in number.

Okay, you’ve endured enough trauma. Please make sure to stay safe, sane, and masked. I’ll see you in two weeks. And, yes, I can see you through your monitor. That’s how the Internet works.
